11/8/2023 0 Comments Cheap and healthy meals![]() There are lots of good reasons to make sure one is getting enough saturated fats. Saturated fat is not as bad as some people think. With a bit of planning, you can eat like royalty for the rest of the summer. You have a pretty nice food budget for the month. As you get more experienced in shopping around, and figuring out which stores have the best prices for stuff. After several years of this rule, we've made some exceptions. And food you prepare is usually cheaper than food that is prepared for you. As a rule, we try not to buy any one item that is more than $3. Rice and beans provide you with all 20 of the essential amino acids and are dirt cheap. My family eats for about $80 a week, and we're feeding 3 people- 2 craft beer snobs and a baby. ![]() They are basically a collection of odds and ends from the pantry, what you can't eat in a couple days you can freeze for later (I like to take mine to work for lunch). There's a reason grandma loves to make them. Try making a casserole like lasagna, or an enchilada casserole or something. You can totally doctor that stuff up with some protein, like meatless meatballs, ricotta cheese, parmesan, etc. But Trader Joe's Tomato and Basil marinara is always less than $3 a bottle. Pasta is great, and I can usually find pasta sauce on sale all over the place. Real butter, whole fat yogurt, and cheese make up a good portion of my protein intake.
